CHILDREN TO PUT ON STORYBOOK PARADE AT THE YMCA
YMCA Celebrates Halloween and Literacy!

Naples, Florida (October 16, 2007) – On Halloween, the hallways of the Greater Naples YMCA will be filled with trick-or-treating children (ages 12 months- 5 years) dressed as characters from their favorite books. The YMCA Child Development Center’s Storybook Parade will take place through the halls of the YMCA on Wednesday, October 31 at 10:00 a.m.
Each classroom has chosen a favorite book and YMCA teachers have helped the children to make their own costumes to match the characters in the book. “The children are here to learn important school readiness skills and we thought this was a wonderful opportunity to bring in a literacy component,” said Beth Hatch, Director of the YMCA Child Development Center. The YMCA will provide the candy and other treats to be handed out to the children as they parade through the hallways of the YMCA.
To address the need for quality child care services in Collier and South Lee County, the YMCA of the Palms recently acquired the property and building directly adjacent to the Greater Naples facility, the former Teddy Bear Museum. This site will be the new location of the YMCA/Gaynor Child Development Center. This $3+ million project will be licensed for an additional 126 children, made up of three pre-school and five Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) classrooms, doubling the current capacity of the YMCA’s child care program. The YMCA’s goal is to have the Center remodeled, staffed, and equipped by the fall of next year.
