Naples High School Student Wins Art Contest for Project Graduation T-Shirts

(Naples, FL - April 16, 2008) The t-shirts the 2008 graduates will be wearing to Project Graduation will proudly display artwork from Alyx Colgrove of Naples High School School. Students from each of the 10 participating high schools submitted original artwork for the design and the winning t-shirt design was picked by student volunteers from each school.

Project Graduation is celebrating its 23rd anniversary and has grown to attract more than 1,100 graduates from ten area schools. The 2008 event will be held at the Greater Naples YMCA on Friday, May 23 from 11p.m. - 4a.m.

Project Graduation is the nation's longest running, drug and alcohol-free celebration.  Graduation night can be a deadly and dangerous night in some cities, however, since Project Graduation's inception; there has never been an alcohol related fatality on graduation night in Collier County.

The event's success depends heavily upon generous donations of money, food, prizes and gift certificates. "There is still time to lend your support for this much anticipated event" said Sandy Graham, Project Graduation Coordinator.  More than 500 prizes are drawn throughout the evening.  Graduates go home with computers, phones, phone cards, dorm refrigerators, gas cards, and camcorders (just to name a few) to help them get ready for the next phase of their lives.  In addition, one graduate from each high school will win a grand prize of $1000 cash "drawn at dawn."

"This event has become a Collier County tradition as it involves parents, schools, businesses, and organizations joining together in support of tomorrow's Collier County business leaders, employees and parents," said Graham.

The participating schools include Barron Collier High School, Community School of Naples, Everglades City School, Golden Gate High School, Gulf Coast High School, Lely High School, Naples High School, Palmetto Ridge High School, Seacrest Country Day School, and St. John Neumann High School.

Graduates pay a $10 entrance fee and enjoy an all-night celebration including food, entertainment, games, prizes and more.  Activities include a rock climbing wall, mechanical bull rides, cash machine madness, jousting contests, a DJ for dancing, carnival games and Laser Battle.  Graduates also have access to an all night buffet and coffee house.
